Running Vista (puke) 64 (even worse)
when i go to Control Panel > Network Connections
and properties for Wireless Network connection, i go to
Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) > properties
and tick use following IP address (was set to Obtain an IP automatically)
enter IP (in this case 192.168.1.5)
put in default gateway - in this case 192.168.1.1 click OK
but then when i close on the "wireless network connection properties" window
the computer crashes ????????????????????? any ideas ?

Wireless router can also be a DHCP server , so you will have to configure your wireless router to reserve an ip address and assign it to that particular computer by entering the computer mac address . Otherwise I think you contact your ISP to assign you one. I hope that helps
