I think I want an AMD CPU they seem to have lots of good reviews and reasonable prices if not better. Anyway, I was hoping someone to suggest one for me. I play the usual steam games, Half Life 2, TF2, Portal, and Counter Stike: source. But, I want to maybey branch out to better more demanding games or at the very least turn up the settings on the ones I already have. I have chosen a case I like, the Enermax red Staray, and Im ready to pick out the "guts" of my build.

Well a $60 Athlon II X2 240 is capable of running source games on max settings. Knowing your budget would help because other wise I'll just need to tell you to get a Phenom II 965.

Well actually that Athlon II X2 240 sounds like a perfect price. This is going to be my first build and I dont want to feed money to it. Infact I have one in the computer I'm using but the motherboard sucks, which obviously means im not using it to its fullest potential.

If you're ok with spending a little more, a x3 would be better
