Boot disk A is typically a floppy disk drive, not a CD drive.

You trying to load Windows 95/98 on an XP machine? XP has NTFS.

Diskette in A: is a floppy for sure.

What OS is on the machine and whats the hardware?

Probably a dead hard drive.

Wow I havent seen 98 in years. Likely the hard drive is dead........I cant imagine its new lol.

I dont think Microsoft even supports 98 any more. I wouldnt bother trying to reinstall it. You are going to have to find all the updates yourself. You are just asking to be part of a bot net if you connect to the internet. Almost no new software or hardware will run well if at all on 98. Even if its 98 SE there is just no driver support. Hell you cant even have files over 4gigs on 98.

I think its time the old Mother in Law moves in the 21st century. At the very least get her XP. Although with parts failing on her computer im sure it needs an upgrade as well.

Sounds like the old hard drive has finally gave up. Time for a newer system.
