I'm currently using an E6750 @ 2.66ghz. I use my computer mostly for photoshop but I do game occasionally (just pre-ordered L4D2). I noticed that my CPU is starting to fall behind with the i5's and i7's coming out. I looked into an upgrade after realizing I will have no shot at playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 at a decent framerate with my current specs. I found that my local MicroCenter has the Q9550 on sale for only $160. Is now a good time to get a Q9550? I don't have enough money to upgrade my entire computer to a new platform. Will I see a significant boost when upgrading to the q9550 from the e6750? Here are my specs.

Core 2 Duo E6750
Gigabyte ga-p35 ds3l
4gb gskill ddr2
evga 9800gtx+
corsair 750watt

Thanks.

Its a really good deal if its going to be a while before you can do a full upgrade. I would say if you can do the whole computer to a i5 or i7 in the next 6 months dont do it. If its going to be a year or more before a full upgrade then go with the 9550.

You will see a good boost in framerates. However, you can also overclock your current CPU. Your current CPU is good enough to play the games you have listed.

anort3 is right. It's an excellent way of extending the life of a Core2 system if you are not going to upgrade anytime soon.

The P45 chipset is better.

We built a new PC recently with the Q9550 and 16GB of Corsair XMS2
installed in the ASUS P5Q Premium: it runs great!
