Question about an hd 4770 using PCI Express 16x

My mobo is a new Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6, and when the first PCI Ex 16x slot is used, you can't use any PCI Ex 1x slots, whereas if you put the graphics card in the x8 slot, you free up two 1x slots.
I'm thinking of putting the 4770 into the x8 slot so that I can use the 1x slots (I need them for other peripherals). Would this cause any detrimental effects to the system performance?

I don't play any games. I will be running Win7 64-bit, and I do editing on Photoshop CS4 and Google Sketchup, etc.

Should be fine, as the x8 wont be too slow for it
