I want to hook up my PC to my old HDTV but I'm running into some problems. My video card is a GeForce 8800GT and has two DVI ports and an s-video on it, and the TV only has component and s-video. I picked up a DVI to component (RGB) cable. When I hook it up the PC detects an analog display but won't send a signal to the TV. I've read that the video card needs to support component or sync-to-green or I'd need to get a converter of some sort. Anyone know if the 8800GT supports either of those, and if I'm even going about this the correct way? Any help would be appreciated.

The 8800GT analog connector requires a breakaout cable that will enable you to use COMPONENT VIDEO CONNECTION TO YOUR TV.

Below is the instructions connections from BFG....Most of the 8800GT before use the same method.

Thanks for the reply leon2006.

So far all I've been able to find in breakout cables is male vga to female component which would require I get a component extension cable. Strangely the only component extension cable I can find online is a 25 foot one which costs more than I want to pay. I also found male vga to male component, so would I be able to go straight from the graphics card to the TV with that? My video card doesn't have a vga output but I do have dvi to vga adapters.

The breakout cable comes with the card...You can try ebay, google it or some other sites that sells the cable specific to your card. Call the vendor of your card and ask. Normally they send it for free.
