Well, my parents computer back at home has given out after 6 years and they want a new one, so they asked me. I put together a cheap one, and just wanted some opinions on it.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Tonight, Tomorrow. ASAP, basically.

BUDGET RANGE: $300

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Surfing Internet, possibly media storage. Nothing intensive.

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, monitor, OS

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg

PARTS PREFERENCES: Prefer an AMD CPU (Don't really care though) , other than that, none.

OVERCLOCKING: No.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1024x768

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Just a simple, cheap PC for my parents.

Case
HDD
VERY cheap PSU (Seems extremely cheap and not worth it, but reviews seem okay. If it fails after a while, I don't lose out too much.)
Motherboard
CPU
RAM
CD/DVD Drive

Yeah, my parents will only be using this for light stuff (email, browsing internet, etc.), obviously not hardware intensive stuff or gaming or anything.

Just wondering if everything is compatible, it'll work, I don't need anything extra, etc.

Excuse me if this is in the incorrect section or anything, I'm new here.

Why not just go with a Dell or HP machine and you'll get a machine with a free upgrade to Windows 7. It'll be simple, cheap and up-to-date. Just a thought.

Very wrong on the PSU choice, if it fails it can take other things with it, the cheaper ones tend to take out more.

This combo will serve their needs better

For the PSU swap it out for this one, its the only really cheap non POS PSU

Since the motherboard in that combo is a full sized ATX board you have to move up to a real case

Comes out to $323 before MIR and $268 after MIR vs yours at $277 before MIR and $264 after. Oh and you dont risk losing the entire build to a POS PSU.

I had thought about it, but I've always been a person to prefer building a computer. Besides, this PC will be running Ubuntu 9.04.

Wow, thank you so much. Blows mine outta the water. I'll definitely go with this.

Except the intel onboard graphics chips suck relative to the AMD ones and that celeron isnt very good, the athlon II chips are equivilant to the lower core2duo's which still puts them a hell of alot higher than the celerons
