I'm looking to buy my second DTivo. My first DTivo is a Phillips
DSR6000.

I'm looking at the Hughes SDDVR80 or the Thompson R10. (I'm not sure if
I've got the model #s right but they are both are Series 1 units with 80
GB HDs that are available for $99). Any other suggestions?

Should I consider a Series 2 unit? From what I've read none of the new
features (HMO, networking TivoToGo, etc.) are available in DTivo,
anyway. Is there any reason to get a Series 2 DTivo?

No DirecTV DVR is branded as a Series2. The Series2 TiVo supports
HMF without user modification. The hardware in the DirecTV DVR
will support version 4.0 software, so some users have installed that
version to get limited HMO features. This modification is not approved
by TiVo or DirecTV and could be use disabled at any time. All it would
take to do this is a modification to the guide data stream to disable storing
on the software version 4.0 DVR.

Home Media Option is now called Home Media Feature.
