Hi everybody!

This is my first time posting so please have mercy on me :S

I'm currently thinking about getting a new video card and i narrowed it downed to a Radeon 4870:

This is my motherboard i currently have:

My question is:

Will i be able to fit this Video card into my motherboard?

Is it compatible with my motherboard? The reason i ask is i don't quite understand the PCI-Express X16 2.0? Does it mean its backwards compatible?

Heres some other specs of my computer that may help with your answers:

AMD Athlon(tm) 7750 Duel-Core 2.5 processor
650 watt psu Antec Trio
4gigs of Ram
OS Windows Vista Home Premium

Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance!

It will fit the motherboard fine the only issue you might have is with the case, my 4850 doesnt have much room in my antec 300, i would imagine a 4870 would be bigger so make sure you have a large enough case to support it.

PCI-E 2.0 just runs at twice the speed, so a PCI-E 16x 1.0 slot runs at the same total bandwidth as a PCI-E 8x 2.0 slot, there will be a minor bottleneck but not very much.

Thanks guys for all your responses. I will consider buying a new case. I already made room for the card, had to move some Hard drives to the bottom of my case.

This should be included, but the other thing to remember is the PSU. You will need 1x PCI-E 8pin, and possibly 1x PCI-E 6pin. I think the HD4870 requires more than just one power connection. Be sure to check your power supply, you should be OK though.

thats not true...

you need 2x 6pin PCI-E connectors.
and also don't run a card with one less connector, it shouldnt be OK
