Greetings,

I have ordered an XPS 17 for my (lovely) wife. The basic specs are:

XPS17 with 1080p monitor
2630QM Intel processor
8gb RAM
BD/DVD Burner
Windows 7 Home Premium
GT555M graphics card/3gb DDR3 RAM (she does not game at all/neither do I)
2 X 500gb 7200RPM HDs in Raid 0
Software includes Microsoft Office Small Business.

I have separately purchased an OCZ Agility III 120gb HD, and intend to put it in slot 1, turn off the raid and use the 500gb HD for storage. I have cloned several HDs so that's not an issue.

My question: My gut says it is better to clone before first boot, so that activating Windows and Office are done with the new set up. Am I correct, or is it likely that those two software suites have been activated, and that I need to uninstall Office, and probably go through the telephone and explain process with Microsoft?

Your experience/wisdom are welcome, and I understand that my mileage may vary.

I personally would swap it out and do a fresh install of window arther than clone the original hdd.

In fact, even if you were not going to install an SSD, I would recommend a fresh install of windows upon arrival of your new laptop.

But that is me...

I've considered that alternative too...get rid of bloatware at the same time. It may depend on what is on the Dell system restore disk that I purchased, but thank you.
