GTX 280 is faster maybe about 20%. So you get 20% more for 40$ more, its your choice.

^ I dont think overall the GTX 280 will be 20% faster...It depends more on the game...
In certain games, the HD 4890 is faster than the GTX 280...Actually in Crysis WH it beats the GTX 280...Ony at resolution above 1920X1200, the GTX 280 has a slight advantage...But I dont think you would run a game above 1920X1200 resolution do you...

I would buy the HD 4890 happily...$40 difference for no major performance increase - Actually you get a little better product...The HD 4890 has a good headroom for overclock too...Once when overclocked, it can compete with GTX 285 too...

And if your 700W is a high quality one, it would be suffice even for 2 of these cards...

Ya it depends on what game you will play, hers a good review hxxp://www.techspot.com/review/164-radeon-4890-vs-geforce-gtx275/page3.html

ive returned 2x 4890's, due to because they have coil-noises. When u play games etc 4890 tend to make a loud hissing noise due to cheap parts. If u go google and search "4890 weird noises" there will be heaps of proof iw asnt the only one.

Go for nvidia you get what u pay for; better quality parts.

Little tip don't say crap like that. You fanboi. And may i suggest getting a better case i can barely hear my cards. Then again I'm not an idiot that cranks the fans. When the vid cards are staying lower then 60c. That depends a lot on the manufacter of the card. If it didn't I could show you heaps of proof how shitty nvidia cards are.

no matter what these guys say they know nothing... the gtx 280 is not 20% faster than the 4890, the 275 beats both the 4890 and the 280 for a little margin like 3-5% so 4890 and 280 are the same.

280 runs way hotter than the 4890 though, 280 load temps with fan up 100% go up to 85 - 90 degrees Celsius when gaming...

Reply to Nica Guy

WRONG, 280 is a bit faster than the gtx 275 but you wont notice the difference 512 bit with 1024mb memory. But about heat yes but the GTX 275 has a much cheaper cooler from what I read. It has more memory, larger memory interface, and more ROP units 141.7 GB/s, mines at 160Gbps. If its the same price get the 280.

Persuming your post about we know nothing, I Own a GTX 280 and a HD 4870. hehe

And about temps I have an overclocked GTX 280 Fan speed @ 70 and it never went over 80 deg. The highest was 80 and it was when running Folding@Home it overload the gpu LoL

Reply to Anonymous

i had the 280 too... u know nothing... the guys is asking about 4890 not 4870 and the gtx 275 is faster, due to the faster clocks... read some reviews before posting...

Reply to Nica Guy

LMAO You serious? The GTX 280 is a bit faster dude Get both and test if you want.

Reply to Anonymous

u want more details?
the 280 has a very low shader clock and that brings its performance down...
overclock the shader clock and then u outperform a 275, but ohh.... yes, we all know most 280's dont overclock well and get unstable with high clocks...

trust me get a 275 or a 4890 even if they're the same price...

Nica hers a review Note that the left is the GTX 280 they reversed them.

not to sure about ur link dude...

Reply to Nica Guy

LoL did you read the conclusion? They Say --Performance that comes close to the GTX 280-- They even say it. You only took one benchmark look @ ALL of them :)

Reply to Anonymous

i say the same thing... did u even look at one?

Reply to Nica Guy

i do think what might be going on with ur review... ur review only shows very high resolutions where the extra memory and bandwith can make a difference, but in lower resolutions the 275 beats it due to faster clocks... imo

i still think my website is much more reliable than urs...

Reply to Nica Guy

huh? I dont get what you say. Anyway If you have the choice between a GTX280 or a GTX275 for the same price I will take the 280 anyday note the number 280>275 .

*** ed up naming... :D

i'd rather go for newer and improved tech..

wow you guys really went at it for a while there...... hehe...

You guys need to understand one thing. Both cards are great, you will not see a huge difference if we are comparing both cards... maybe a slight performance gain with the 280 but it really depends what exact model we are talking about. As far as price to performance goes, the 4890 wins by a landslide due to the GTX 280 is overpriced.

The 275 is not faster than the 280 hence the fact that the 280 has 1GB memory while the 275 has 896MB of memory.... the 280 is a 512-bit card while the 275 is 448-bit.... Not that you will see a major difference in games comparing both but it is a fact that the 280 is superior than the 275....

IMO it would be wiser to purchase the 4890 and later on buy another if xfire is possible on your mobo... Another option is wait till the next gen cards come out and you will have more of a selection to choose from......

+1 Both are good deal. Its up to you. If you can wait a few months its better.

A GTX275 OC to 680Mhz+ is on the heels of a GTX285. The smaller GPU core means you can OC much higher which you cannot with the 280's. Plus the GTX275 consumes less power. Only needs 2 6pin connectors rather then an 8 pin and a 6 pin.

Just nab a GTX285 and OC it up and above the realm of 275's and 280's and be done with it :P
