Why is my computer saying i have 2.93 usable ram when i have 4??

i just purchased and installed windows 7 ultimate and noticed my ram says 4 gb but 2.93 usable how do i correct this??

my computer is duo core 2 e6600 processor shouldn't this be able to handle 4 gb espcecially since that my max ram upgrade is up to 4 gb??


my system properties says this :

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU @ 2.40GHz 2.40 Ghz

Installed memory (RAM) 4.00 GB (2.94 GB usable)

System type: 64-bit Operating System (windows 7 Ultimate)
