Well, I went to the Others and saw a weird message. I don't know if it's my screen or graphics card. Maybe the APU on my CPU. So I thought I'd come here.

You can have a look here:

Should I upgrade?

Pound to a pinch of BoM you got sold one of those commie boards running a Via CPU. Only good authentic Israeli USA CPU's made by Intel will have the power to render a page on Toms.

Isn't there a German alternative?

Yes, but it would be a RISC.

Reply to audiovoodoo

Really? That's bad - even with optimized coding on RISC, even a poorly optimized CISC CPU from pre 1970 can outrun it today.

Reply to Vokofpolisiekar

They would give an ARM and a leg for 1970's CISC performance, some bright SPARK might come up with something but I think they MIPS'd the boat a few years back.

Reply to audiovoodoo

I think they need to ram this thru, put them on their key boards at least, and for gfx, dont be so discrete about it

Is AMD really that bad? I heard it can burn itself out...

Darn. I never even knew we had an Old Man/Woman's Club. :(

Reply to jsc

We didn't. That was a tag that BoM came up with to try and stop confusion with us being called the 'Other'.

Vok, the problem you are facing is you are probably using an x86 based cpu, you need a powerpc, probably best buy an old mac. I mean seriously, look at the name of POWER pc.

Either that or buy a ps3, the cell in that is so advanced and so much more powerful that it is far too good to be wasted on windows.

Really? We thought you just licked them.

Reply to audiovoodoo

As do so many that pass through these parts.

Perhaps vok needs to lick his power supply to lubricate the parts, that works with other things.

Trying the old PSU impersonation again hey Strangest? He's not so stupid he wouldn't spot the difference between a 24 pin ATX connector and that poor excuse of a PWM fan connector you sport.

Foiled once again.

I can provide coolant if you need some.

I really hope that I can buy a CELL CPU for my PC. I've had a 486SX and some AMD Kettle Element - they both were slow. Can I get the CELL in PCIx slot in configuration?

Thank you guys. I always thought Anandtech was better, but Tom's has truly redeemed itself for me.

How do I do that? If I stick my tongue in there, I'm pretty sure the 40mm fan will cause some physical harm.

Silly, you first remove the psu cover to get to the internal parts, those are what need the most attention.

Vok, how much voltage do those things give out, practically nothing. They are used to supply 3, 5 and 12V. That ain't going to do anything now is it.

Well, I got 0.5Amp on my 9V rail. But it's split up into 5 rails (the 9V).

Say, while we on topic. If I daisy wire all my 9V rails onto the feed to my AMD eater CPU, will it run faster? I mean, it's 5x more volts for switching the mechanical relays.

Hmm, are you plugging into the mobo first or directly into the cpu?

Most cpu makers try to discourage applying power directly to the cpu as it will allow you to unlock it's full potential rather than the incremental step they release each year.

Ideally it should end up fused directly into the motherboard. yes, it will limit upgrades but think of the speed.

That should really help with your forum troubles.

I find welding the cpu directly to the mobo helps, and skipping the psu as well, just be verrrry careful, those wires are fat, if you file the ends, it helps

Do you ARC weld or that old stick thingies? Aren't you afraid the smoke will pull into the fan ball bearings?

Reply to Vokofpolisiekar

Naw, just use a vacuum cleaner while your doing it, and not a spec of dust will get in, nor a sparc.
Just hold your ARM steady while welding
