9800gt xfx - NO POST

im sure there already has been a post about this .... but lets give it a go anyways....


i just bought a 9800gt xfx for my dads PC

and it just doesn't post (blank screen with no signal and the motherboard just clicks a few times and switches over to on board vga).

there are no power connectors on the card , and there are no converters for power that came with it . i tried using it on my board and it does the same. the LAN light flashes on and off and then it kicks into on board vga. my mobo is pciex 2.0 and Ive got dual 4850.

my dads mobo is pciex 16x mobo . not pciex 2.0 ( but pciex 2 cards are backward compatible?)
psu - 500w (Theres no brand name just amperage and how much output .)

is that enough power or am i missing something ? DOA ?or just MIA due to little power

any hints might help a lot lol

if its getting enough power I would say its the card...first try the card in another system doesnt have to be pcie 2.0 and if that dont work there then its the card u prolly got a DOA...I would get in touch with xfx and get an RMA number to ship it back....request one on their website and then call them and they will authorize it right away...they have great service. Good luck

yeah the fan is very quiet and spins up with a little boost . just no image and mother board makes clicking sound continuously then stops. its just like dead.

what do u mean no power connector on the card? 9800gtx requires 2 pice 6pin connector... check it out..if u r not connecting that card the only power it gets is from pcie slot and that is not enough for a card like 9800gtx ..

its a 9800 GT XFX . lol i checked out the PSU and its amperage on 12v rail is
15 + 16+ 9.6 ? the box says it needs at least a 12v rail with 40A? and the psu gives out 40.6 ? is that enough or just to little

im still guessing its a doa card because like this thing doesn't work in my pc lol and ive got enough power to supply a small town
