Hp compaq dc5750 microtower doesnt boot

I am having a HP Compaq DC5750 Microtower sticking on boot up. Currently it runs the BIOS to scan of 6144 (?) and stops. I have tried holding down the ESC key while booting up and that didn't work either. The battery was removed and replaced but the problem is still there. Does anyone have any suggestions without telling me that the system board is shot?
