CPU Cooling

Hey guys, based on the information gathered in my previous thread, I'm deciding to overclock my Q9550 rather than purchase a whole new processor/mobo combo.

I plan on overclocking it to around 3.8GHz (stock is 2.83). I originally planned on going with an air cooler like this:

but after seeing new self-contained liquid cooling ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181010 ), I am left wondering which would be sufficient.

I understand liquid is preferred as it'll garner lower temps, but do I legitimately need it based on what I plan on doing?

If you are just talking about what will suffice then the air solution is just fine. Maybe a Hyper 212+ instead of that beast. From what I have seen/heard liquid doesn't provide an incredibly massive decrease in heat. Honestly, I think liquid is great if you need to save space in your case.

Would this be sufficient for a 1GHz overclock? I want something cheap but if I have to spend more to prevent my CPU from melting I don't mind.

The link below shows a variety of HSFs and some H2O cooler test data so you can see what works well. Low priced H2O coolers are inefficient and often leak damaging hardware. The better HSFs actually out-perform the typical H2O coolers and HSFs don't leak. For mild OC'ing the Hyper 212+ is a great value and performing HSF.
