Dead Acer 512DX

Does anyone have this problem (or a solution)
Laptop seems to be dead.
Power indicator light came on when the machine was switched on; but nothing
else happened. Pressed the F7 key and the Power light went off. and now only
the battery indicator light comes on.
Do any of the Function keys lock the machine (I don't have the user manual so I
don't know what function keys do what!!)
