I'm using the ASRock gen3 extreme3 utility to overclock the cpu. I have disabled turbo boost, power saving etc and bagan putting the multiplier up. I noticed that when I got to 4.3GHz and ran Prime95 for a few minutes, after a few minutes the clock speed would clock down to 4.1-4.2GHz and stay like that for a while. My cpu temps are in the low 50s so I don't think thats an issue. Am I doing something wrong or is it meant to do that?

I kept going and I am currently up to 3.4GHz but again, it runs at 3.4 for a while but then it starts dipping down to 3.3GHz. I have tested it with Prime95 as well as Intel BurnIn test with the same results. Is there a setting in the BIOS or even in Prime95 that I am missing here?

Solution
Check your memory voltage and make sure its not already at 1.65v, I heard this causes stability issues when overclocking.
Intel recommends 1.35v - 1.5v.
