Hopefully, someone can either point out what I'm obviously missing or give me leads into figuring out what is going on.
I built a system back at the beginning of the year and it has been running great. A month ago I boxed it up for a move and recently pulled it out of storage. After plugging it in it and turning it on, the fans would start, the power LED on the case comes on, but nothing would appear on the screen.
I've done a bit of work trying to figure out what's going on and here's where I'm at. If I disconnect everything until I have just the motherboard with the PS connected, monitor and a speaker, I get three beeps. It's an AMI motherboard and the beeps mean there's a memory error. There's no memory installed so that's expected. If I plug in one or both memory modules (even tried the two memory modules individually in each slot), when I turn on the machine, the fans start, the power LED comes on. However, no beeps and no image on the screen. I pulled a memory module out of this computer, put it in the problem child with same results (fans and power LED come on, no beeps, no screen).
I'm at a loss to figure out what's going on at this point. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Same results whether I use an video card or the integrated video.
Specs:
ECS A740GM-M Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ 2.9Ghz
Crucial 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz
RaidMax RX-500S 500W PS
EVGA GeForce 7200GS 512MB (Has been removed for most troubleshooting)
+ HD and DVD drive which have been removed during troubleshooting
I pulled out a different PSU, hooked it up to the motherboard and get the same results. The computer powers on, fans start up, case LED comes on, but there are no beeps and nothing appears on the screen. If I pull the memory modules out, the computer beeps three times when it gets turned on.
So, if it's not a memory problem (tried using memory from this computer) and changing power supplies doesn't seem to resolve the problem am I looking at a motherboard issue?
An interesting(?) thing to note. I tried pulling the motherboard out of the case and set it up on a cardboard box. In this setup, I won't even get it to beep three times with no memory in it. The CPU fan spins, but nothing else happens.
