Hello everyone

I am upgrading my pc to an i7 system and would like advice on my system.
Money isnt an issue. I will be purchasing it some time next week.
I will overclock in the future but will be running sli configuration soon.
I will be using a samsung T220 22" inch monitor.

I will be using it for gaming,rendering,photoshop, but mainly for gaming.

Here are the parts that i have decided on.

Motherboard = Asus rampage 2 Extreme

Cpu = i7 920 or 950

ram = OCZ PC3-15000 DDR3 6GB CL9 Reaper Low-Voltage Triple Channel 3x2G or Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D , Dominator with DHX technology , 3 x 2Gb/2

cpu cooler = Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme

psu = cooler master RS Real Power 1000w or enermax galaxy 1000w

case = Gigabyte Sumo 5115 or Antec 1200

gfx = MSI 285gtx

I know the rampage extreme is a little larger than your average ATX motherboard will it fit in one of the chasis that i have mentioned ?? :??:

Thanks in advance any advice is most welcome

^ the R2E will fit in the antec 1200.

however I would recommend a different build to what you've laid out,

1) just get a P6T instead of the R2E, the R2E has hardly and extra features and costs a lot more.

2) you only need 1600MHz memory, and don't get dominator's, they're horrifically overpriced.

3) get a Corsair H50 or a Cogage TRUE spirit over the Thermalright extreme, the Corsair H50 is quieter and only performs slightly worse, while the Cogage is cheaper and performs better.

4) you'll only need an 850w PSU, try a Corsair HX or OCZ z-series as they have the highest efficiency ratings.

5) just get a 4890 GPU, it's a lot cheaper, only performs a tiny bit worse.

6) with the money you save, get a 5870 or two in mid September, as one of these will outperform any card on the market today, put in two and you'll be getting amazing frame rates in any game.

I forgot to mention that i already have a 285gtx in my current system that i will be taking over into my new one, so thats why i would like to go sli.

Thank you for your advice. I will have a look at the OCZ or Corsair psu instead of the 1kW psu and different ram modules.
Still thinking about the motherboard, i have always wanted to own a ROG motherboard hehe.

I have never heard of a Cogage before, i will definantly have a look at it.

Thanks again

well if you wanna own a ROG mobo, I assume its because they had the reputation as being the best in class..if that's the case, look at the eVGA's x58 Classified as it currently holds the crown (best overclocker, layout..NOT at stock settings)..

+1 to Corsair's HX series

Yes, everything you mentioned will fit into a antec 1200 and also since money isn't an issue I would have to recommend getting a EVGA classified motherboard, more expensive but look it up and see what it can do :)
-Get a 920, since a 920 is clocked at 2.66 and a 950 is at 3.06(I think), overclocking a core i7 920 to 3.06ghz will be the easiest thing you will ever do :)! And will save you hundreds which you can spend for a that better motherboard, better monitor, and if you want on a more powerful graphics configeration which will be much more handy for your needs over a processor.
