Can someone tell me if it is possible to put a Duo Processor in a HP Pavilion a1130n? I need to know if it is worth it to upgrade this old computer or just buy a new one. I would rather upgrade the processor though.

It's possible that a dual core 939 would work, but they're getting scarce, so the chance of you finding one cheap is slim. Check your local craigslist; I wouldn't spend more than $75 for one. If you decide to upgrade to a newer board, get another hp if you still use your original operating system that came with your computer. It won't work on a non hp board.

Does any 1 know for sure if the s939 athlon 64x2 4400+ would work w/ this hp? I'm nervous the mobo wouldn't support the cpu. Mobo specs http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00...

THe bios update on the hp site doesn't mention anything about dual core support. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadInde...

It's an MSI mobo and don't know if u could flash the bios from the MSI site and have everything work? This is the search result I get on the MSI site but still unsure if it will work w/ the hp a1130n.

You can't flash the bios from a different brand board. Your board will be dead if it accepts the flash program. Most flash programs give you a warning if the program won't work. Your hp board is worth some money if you want to sell it and find another 939 board. I saw 2 recently; one was only $15 new on my local craigslist. I don't see any dual core support on your hp board, so I would forget about it. You can upgrade to a single core 4000; I saw one for only $30 recently.

Thanks very much. Will likely keep the peripherals and start from scratch. Will never buy retail again.
