I built a computer back in 2008 and had some problems with the board. It has 2 gigs of DDR2,Dual core Athlon 4600. I'm thinking of building a new one so I was wondering if I should just reuse the processor and RAM or maybe just upgrade to DDR3 and a quad core processor

Cheepest solution is to rebuild with an AM2+ Solution such as an M3A78-EM and reuse the CPU and Ram, 1 year later or now, upgrade to an AM3 cpu such as Ahtlon2 or Phenom2

DDR3 Ram requires an AM3 Motherboard, those are not compatible with AM2 Cpus.

I would try to find out how much it would cost you to go for a DDR3 system - they are much cheaper that you may think.

If this works out too expensive, go for the DDR2 upgrade.
