My computer is not reading CDs or DVDs. When I click on the drive I get a pop up message that asks me to load a CD/DVD into the drive.

How old is the computer/drive? Sounds like it may be toast. However, if you recently updated your OS or even installed a new one, it could be a driver issue. You could always try to update the driver or even the firmware just to be sure.
