I know that the GTX 295 is better than a single GTX 285 but is it better a HD gaming (1920x1080)?

I play things like Crysis and I would like to be able to run it as very high with some AA, is that possible with any on these cards in single or would I have to go with SLI? The only reason I don’t want to use SLI is because I have a lot of components in my PC and would require me taking some out which I don’t want to do.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. This is probably a dumb question but I am still learning a lot about graphics cards.

GTX 295 will out-perform a GTX 285 in any game that is SLI compatible hands down. Any game that isn't will probably see more frame rates from the GTX 285 but nothing noticeable considering both would be overkill (for a single GPU optimized game). I would get the GTX 295 over the 285. The 285 is still overpriced quite a bit due to it being the fastest single GPU card out there (for now). And if you don't plan on doing 'dual slot' sli then the GTX 295 will last you much longer due to it being 2 GPUs on a single slot and the performance is far superior. So it's like SLI without having to use 2 PCIe slots.

the ati 4870x2 is better then a 285 but touches the 295

Yeah I would recommend looking at the 4870x2 as well.

You cannot max settings on Crysis with a GTX 295, just so you know that. No single card can.

The GTX 295 is like 200 dollars more than the 4870x2 (last time i checked), which is overpriced, when the 4870x2 is just a little behind the performance of the GTX 295.

If you are not planning to go MAX settings on crysis, which you cannot with one card at 1920x1080 (trust me i done this, not playable frames with AA on..etc)

HD Gaming, if you have the patience wait for the DX11 cards..or the ati 5xxx coming out very soon. It will beat pretty much any of the cards on the market including GTX 295 when the 5870x2 is out. but again prices will drop for the older cards

for the info crysis has 1gig of data per frame @ 1920x1080 with no aa

I dont know if it was crysis but i have seen a test on this site where they found that some game was just to much for the 295 because it did not have the ram needed and a 285 with 2GB of ram did better

Like a said dont know what game that was but the 2GB 285 is verypowerfull but if your willing to waste the money on a 295 just get that and wait 2 years and get another when they are cheap

Haha brandonvi your funny, get another gtx 295 in two years? I'm sure they won't be selling those in less a year already. 2GB 285 is very powerful? Just a waste on money, it just overperforms the 280 by not so much.

Again, the original poster needs to give more info as to what games he will be playing at what settings, MAX or med-max..etc and he mentioned HD gaming. He didn't give info that his monitor support it or not. In this case he should say HDMI monitor.

Again, I suggest the 4870x2 over the GTX 295 unless you have a whole lot of money and don't care. Last time I checked the 295 is 200 dollars more than 4870x2 for just a little performance edge, which is pointless to me.

Read my above post that i mentioned waiting for the new cards. No point of buying anything right now, i5 coming out, almost to new cards too. Let the market settle, then the consumer wins.

yes 4870x2 is recommanded from me if u want the best price/performance ratio and can max out crysis without AA in 1920 resolution

Obviously gtx 295 is better we know that already, but it's 150 dollars more. The performance of 4870x2 is less than gtx 295 by a little, not a whole lot. It's price/performance card unlike the gtx 295. You paying 150 dollars more for a few extra frames per second. According to a lot of reviews I've read, including the tom's review, 4870x2 is just behind the gtx 295. Almost that anandtech review you posted is quite old, with the old drivers..not accurate.

No point buying cards right now, DX11 is that close. Save up and get new.

mid way down the page its only .7 fps so not even 1 but it does outdo the 295 althow I do think that the first thing I posted up there is better a 295 useing 285 chips instead of 275 would be great.
