Hello!
I need to upgrade from an Opteron 165. I have read many different opinions about various chips, which managed to mostly confuse me :)
If I mainly want to run MMO-Rpgs and strategy games, what would be a reasonable upgrade from the old Opty? I'm looking to spen around 200. Could go more, could go less if it makes alot more sense to do so.
Thanks in advance for your advice!

The Opty 165 IIRC is a 939 CPU? If it's a 939, save up some more money and do a new build. It's not worth upgrading CPUs on a dead socket.

Athlon 2 X4 620, 790GX mobo (or a cheaper 780/785G would suffice) and 4gb DDR3. About $250 give or take.

Thanks for the replies! Yea I intend to replace all of the core components. No more 939 :) The @ $200 was just for the chip, I know there will be about $100 for ram ect.
I have heard that the i5 is great and that it's broken. Any opinions on that or other options?

It's just not built for heavy overclocking, other than that it's fine. Stay away from any P55 motherboards that have a foxconn cpu socket.
