Hey is the msi 790x k9a2 cable with a Phenom 2? with stocket AM3 when the mobo say it supports AM2/AM2+ ?? Becuase my friend is thinking about upgrading from the old 9650 Phenom 2.3 Ghz to the new Phenom 2 ? :D THanks

Yes, but you may need to update the bios with the old processor before installing the new processor. Also I'm pretty sure it will only support AM3 processors up to 125w.

AM3 cpu's will work on AM2+ mobo's but not the other way around.

He may want to look at the new Athlon 2 X4 620, its 95w, and its only $99 and overclocks well.

So its not cable with the PHenom 2 965 with 140 W. but should be able with the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3,2Ghz, AM3, 8MB, 125W, Boxed ?

If it's this motherboard (K9A2 CF) it should work the Phenom II X4 955 BE with the bios update.

According to the specs, it says "Supports AMD AM3 CPU up to 125W"
