No video

I accidentally knocked my beloved 5 yr old sony vaio off my couch and immediately checked for damage. yep, nothing on screen. called my tech and he said try to attach a monitor to it and that didn't work either so he said I not only damaged the screen but my video is gone. Well, I tried one more time this morning and noticed that the name Vaio comes up, which it did before but this time I saw the little dos cursor in the upper left corner and then the troubleshooting message with the white blips at the bottom, reminiscent of the old black and white dos screens. So, I hit the F8 key and got the "delete restoration data" message as one of two options. The other option was to continue the restart. I don't know anything about restoration data but is there a shot at keeping my vaio alive with an external monitor?????
