Hi everyone,

I am interested in knowing what components my friend should look into getting for his computer system.

USE: This system will be run using a Flat HDTV Screen. He will be using the system primarily for watching movies and surfing the internet.

Stipulations: What are the cheapest components that will get this job done while performing well?

Thanks,

Well it depends on if there will be any gaming involved. If not almost any modern card should do fine. Something like this would be a good choice;

If there will be gaming this card is a great deal;

It's also quite large and uses a good bit of power however. Make sure the PSU can handle it.

This card isn't quite as good for gaming but it's smaller and much more power efficient;

I have an 8600Gt and i can't watch 1080i movies. They just freeze so a good graphics card would be needed.

Welcome to the forums!

I would recommend This Ion System.
For $360 he will get a complete system minus the OS.
It will be plenty powerful enough for his intended usage and has a very low power draw.

------------------------------ If the automobile had followed the same development cycle as the computer, a Rolls-Royce today would cost $100, get a million miles to the gallon, and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

What? A $177 9600gt just to watch movies? Either this is a joke post or from your avatar I'll assume you own stock in XFX...
