Well we know Intel will be releasing the second version of the atom early next year. It seems the way AMD/ATI are trying to combat it just aren't very well organized. I would like to see AMD produce single core athlon II cpus with a single ddr3/ddr2 controller. That way thy could produce each die very cheaply and if a dual core was needed they could a do a MCM and directly solder them to a motherboard. Run them at a low clock speed and pair them with a 785g based chipset. If they were smart they could release m-atx and m-itx boards for around $70-$80 each. Run the cpu at 2ghz with 2 memory slots per cpu core. That would be many times faster than the Atom and be very cost competitive. What do you guys think of this?

it would also not be competitive with the atom, it would be a lower end Athlon II if it iwas MCM
secondly the Athlon single core would wreck the atom at anything, even the dual core atom, since the athlon has better arch, and the atom is for normal usage the athlon II is for multitasking, and if u put a ddr3 controller in, that brings the proc to a whole new level
they already have a single athlon, those are equal if not better than the atoms
