Intel have a habit of introducing new platforms often, at the moment they're looking at the new USB 3 standard instead of incorporating it in their products. So I would personally go for an AMD platform if I wanted it to be the least bit futureproff - But maybe that's just me.

I believe i9 is on 1366. It is an extreme part.

Here's a link confirming the i9's will be 1366 (and very pricey, at first):

My recommendations from the initial Lynnfield review still stand, you'll want to opt for Bloomfield processor if you care about:

1) High-end multi-GPU performance (or other uses of high bandwidth PCIe)
2) Stock Voltage Overclocking
3) Future support for 6-core Gulftown CPUs

Neither are future proof, especially considering how much Intel changes sockets.

No such thing as futureproof in today's tech world - buy what you can afford now and run it for as long as you can.

Personally, I think 1366 has more legs in it, but who's to say that our current X58 boards can take the i9 next year? I don't see the "simple BIOS update" working for some of the cheap MSI and DFI options - top-end Asus, Gigabyte and EVGA maybe.
