It appears that one of these cards will let you use any external
device that requires USB2. Anyone have experience with one?

I got a cheap DLINK card that has no external power supply.
Sometimes, in theory, this is an issue because the PC Card slot can't
supply 5 volts to meet USB spec, so most cards include an external
supply in case the USB device is being powered off the card. With
devices like external hard drives and DVD burners that have their own
supply anyway, probably not an issue. Mine seems to work fine anyway
even with card readers and mice that do get power from the USB port.

My Dlink card works great.
