New Gaming System $900 budget Need advice

Hi All,

I'm building a gaming system for my son who is deployed in Afghanistan and wants a gaming desktop when he gets home in Nov. I'd like to get the best performance for gaming while staying within the budget. I've read some of the recent posts and have come up with the following components. Feel free to offer advice.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Late August/Early September BUDGET RANGE: US$800-900

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: gaming, watching movies, surfing the internet

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Monitor

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com

PARTS PREFERENCES: Not loyal to Intel or AMD

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: He wants a nice case with blue led but might like another color choice, I haven't built a system a about 10 years so I'm enlisting your expertise here. Thanks to all in advance.

  1. Any chance you can find the max resolution of the monitor he will be using? Also i cant view your saved wishlist, you need to make it public and post the link to it. Often times its just easier to post links to all the parts.
  2. Here's the contents of the wish lists minus the keyboard mouse combo, cable extensions, misc small items.

  3. Since you said he wanted some blue LEDs this case provides good cooling and glows blue for less

If you take those savings and drop it into a video card upgrade he can play everything on high settings, it only raises the total cost of the build by $15 after the combo savings and the money saved with the antec 900

Other than that it looks pretty good.

    hunter315,

That case looks pretty cool. So you like the 4890 GPU at this price point.

    Thanks for your input!
