Print out some explanatory text and the table here:

and show your friend just how wrong he was. He's about 5 tiers below you.

Shame on him lol.

9800GT and 7950 GX2 are different. its dual versus single. but it doesn't mean if you have dual you're faster. can 7950 GX2 handle DX 10?

Reply to renz496

The 7950 GX2 is outdated and slow by today's standards. It cannot handle DX 10.

No, your 'friend' is just trying to scam you out of some cash.
Your current 9800GT is much better than an old 7950x2.

Some friend. Tell him to take to hike, your card literally is about twice as fast as his old outdated card.

how old is the 7950gx2 ? 5-6 yrs ?

Surprisingly, the 7950GX2 was launched only five months before the G80.
The G92 came a year.

A quick googling located This Review from when the G80 was first released.
As an 8800/9800GT performs about two thirds of the way between an 8800GTS 640 and 8800GTX (closer to the GTX mostly), you can clearly see how badly the GF7 series was PWND when the G80 was released.

Looking back at this review, I would say the GX2 probably performs between a 9600GSO (96SP) and 4650 in older games.
In newer games, I would expect it to fall even further behind.

i told my friend that the 9800gt is faster and that it's the same as an 4650 and he got pissed he said lets test left 4 dead
res was 1400x900
med settings
fps was 24 when zomebies were every were this was v snyc off
put in my 9800gt fps was 179 when zombies were every were min fps was 59
then he said his cpu was faster and my sucked, he has an pentium d 3.0 and ddr1
i have an amd x2 7550 am2+ so is his system faster because his core is 3.0 and mine is 2.5

I think the biggest improvement to your gaming experience would be to upgrade to Friend 2.0

Reply to Twoboxer

Yes, it is.

Have you considered my well option?

maybe so i take it that my cpu is faster

Well, lets put it this way.
If his CPU was overclocked past 4Ghz, your CPU would still be faster.
The P4D is a seriously underpowered arch.

Upgrading to Friend 2.0 seems like your best option.
Seriously, that guy does not sound like anyones friend (more like an armature scam artist).

I'll be the nice guy and suggest that maybe the friend honestly didn't know. GX2 sounds way more fearsome than GT..... okay so he was just trying to make some quick cash. That's a no no :non:
