Hello,
I built an external hdd. It is recognized as a storage but does not show up on my computer. When I go to disk management to format it, all the options are idle exept help. How do I format it. Thanks.

In disk management you need to scroll down to the bottom of the middle pane and right-click on the left end of the disk map where the disk number (i.e., "Disk 1") is displayed. That should give you the option to create a new volume, and once you've done that you'll have to format it as well.

Hi there,

Also in the Volume Status area Sminlal mentioned, after you format it, there will be a choice "change drive letter or paths". When you assign it a drive letter (E: or whatever) it will then show up in Windows Explorer.
