Pc restarts while coping big files

hi frnds ,
i need ur help. i was getting blue scree error in windows xp
MACHINE _CHECK_EXPECTION
sometimes .but it happens very rarely
now a days my pc is ok it dont restarts randomly
but when i try to copy and paste some big file my pc restarts every time
eg.when i tries to copy a video dvd contents to my hard drive or pen drive it resarts without any reason
i am not able to transfer any file between my drives
please help me what would me the problem and how to solve it
detail-intel pentium 4
windows xp sp2
hard drive-80 gb
ram-512 mb.
any help is appreciated frm u guys

Well, you don't have much RAM, and SP2 is really outdated.

Run a CHKDSK against your drive to look for bads sectors/tracks
