Can upgrade to Quad Core from a 1.5Ghz Core Solo Mac Mini

Can I add a Quad Core Duo into my Mac-mini to replace the current 1.5Ghz Core Solo ?
If so what is the correct model# to suit.

Thanks. http://img.tomshardware.com/forum/uk/icones/biggrin.gif

More about upgrade quad core 5ghz core solo mini
  1. You'd have some serious heat issues if it is possible.

Also, since it's apple, I'd bet they have the CPU soldered into the board.

Fortunately it is not soldered in - It is socketed.
  3. Then you need to find out if it's in a socket 775 or a mobile variant.

If it's the actual Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo), then it's the mobile variant, core duo CPUs were never released for desktops. If thats the case it might be a little difficult to get an upgrade.
  4. Thanks. I have checked and it is a socket 775 device and it has 1.5GHz Intel Core Solo markings.

    Model Name: Mac mini
    Model Identifier: Macmini1,1
    Processor Name: Intel Core Solo
    Processor Speed: 1.5 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 1
    L2 Cache: 2 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MM11.0055.B08
    SMC Version (system): 1.3f4
    Serial Number (system): YM6084KFU35
    Hardware UUID: 00000000-0000-
  5. You sure it's socket 775? I double checked, and intel never made socket 775 core solos. The entire yonah line were the mobile variants only.
  6. it is not 775. it's an M(mobile)479. the best you can do is an intel C2D t7600 (2.33ghz) sl9sd (fcpga). available on ebay for about $250.
  7. Thanks everyone that responded. I have decided that is probably cheaper to purchase the latest model 2nd Hand if possible.

    Cheers. Grahame :o
