What is the difference between a PCIe 16x and a 16x 2.0 if you mobo supports only 16x can u use 2.0 16x board in it?

also in a good gpu does a 9600 vs a 8800 mean its better or should i be looking more so at amount of ram and clock speeds?

thanks

Yes u can use a PCI-E 2.0 card in a PCI-E 1.0 Slot. The PCI-E 2.0 has faster bus. you'll get bottle neck, and not perform to the cards full potential. 9600 vs 8800 is comparable. I would get the 9600 over the 8800 tho. they are around the same price ne ways.

2.0 is twice as fast as 1.0, they are both fully compatible with each other. Even the best cards currently out only show a few fps difference between 1.0 and 2.0

As far as selecting a card I use this chart. The article is rewritten monthly.

Yes you can use a PCI-E 2.0 card in a PCI-E 1.1 slot. Only the earlier 1.0 boards have problems. The card will just run at PCI-E 1.1/1.0 but it's not too big a deal unless you're using like a GTX295.

The 8800GT is the better card however, not the 9600GT.
