Okay, I have a situation where I have to decide which computer I should buy (motherboard, processor, ram), and thought you guys could really help me on this, I have a choice of three;

Code :
  1. 7750BE AMD Athlon64 X2 (5.4GHz)
  2. ECS 8100VM-M5 Motherboard
  3. 1GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM
  4. PNY nVidia GeForce 8400GS 256MB
  5. 1x 160GB SATA
  6. 1x DVD-RW/CD-RW

or

Code :
  1. 240 AMD AthlonII 64 X2 (5.6GHz)
  2. BioStar TA770E Motherboard
  3. 2GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM
  4. PNY nVidia GeForce 8400GS 256MB
  5. 1x 160GB SATA
  6. 1x DVD-RW/CD-RW

or

Code :
  1. AMD Athlon 6000+ 64 X2 (6.2GHz)
  2. Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2H Motherboard
  3. 2GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
  4. PNY nVidia GeForce 8400GS 256MB
  5. 1x 160GB SATA
  6. 1x DVD-RW/CD-RW

...Now I have a choice between all three of these setups to purchase but before I do, I thought I'd consult an expert like the people here at TH with my questions, here they are;

1. How much amperage would I need on the +12V rail for each of the setups above?
2. Which setup is the best?

Thanks for now and if I have any more questions then I will add them to this thread.

Thanks in advance,

CoySpooksDust

Where are you buying these systems from? They obviously don't know a lot about computers if they're listing the CPU speed as double since they're dual core. That's not how it works, and anyone who knows anything about computer's knows it.

The best of the three is the second one with the Athlon II X2 240 CPU.

The 8400GS is a low-end card that doesn't use much power, but I would get a quality PSU from a quality manufacturer like Corsair, PC Power & Cooling, Antec, Seasonic, etc... A quality 350W - 400W PSU from one of those manufacturer's would be plenty for that system.

Do you have the option of building your own system? We could help you come up with an optimized configuration for your intended use if you post in the format listed in the "How to ask for new build advice" sticky at the top of the forum. We need to know the intended use of the computer, your budget, what parts are included in the budget, and where you live so we can look up parts online.

Reminds me of an old Steven Wright joke: "I put a new engine in my car, but forgot to take the old one out. Now my car goes 500 miles per hour."

Though really, if you're paying more than $200 for the best one, don't get it. I've seen way better budget builds for $100-$150 more.
