Cant get OS to load

I just finished putting together my computer and it starts up fine. I can get to the BIOS but when i try to boot it with ubuntu 8.10 it will start to load it and then the screen goes blank and says "no signal". I thought it might be the disk so I got ubuntu 9.04 on a cd and tried to run that and it wont even start to run. Does anyone know what the problem is here?

Sounds like an issue with the video driver, make sue the card you are using is supported.

I am using an ATI HD3870 video card and a Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P motherboard. I think that your probably right that its a driver issue but I have no idea how to solve that.

Maybe the refresh rate on your monitor?

you can insert your own drivers into the ubuntu disk

I don't know how but if you ask on the ubuntu forums, someone should be able to help you.

I believe you can use nlite to slipstream a ubuntu disc in windows.

Sounds like a video resolution problem. Do you have an LCD hooked up by a VGA cable? Ubuntu could be trying to use a res your monitor doesn't support.
