just wait till the drivers improve or two of these bad boys in crossfire, nvidia does not stand a chance

Reply to rangers

yea i agree completely. Things are looking great for ATI again w/the 5xxx, be interesting to see how the battle heats up in the next gen. :P but man, i can't wait for CF benches as well!

Not too bad if these numbers hold up

If those are true then Crysis is well and truely beaten by a single video card. What's even better news is that they were using a Phenom II 955, I would wager you could expect to see a few more FPS when the game is running on a overclocked Core i5/7.

----------------

John, are those numbers Minimum or average FPS for Crysis?

That seems fishy. this is more than 2x. If this is true then the price is right :)

OK, think of it this way, and bring some salt.
If it has double rops, double shaders, 15% higher clocks, 30% faster memory, and the only thing we can compare it to is a card using CF, then yes, its double
I think the new schedular is helping alot here, I also hear theres been memory opts, so itll get even more milage out of its memory, much like we saw vs G92 and G200, where AA is no biggie

Reply to jaydeejohn

I am also hearing of some new AA algorithms performed on the backends only which speed up things. May be thats the key to the tent :)

Reply to rawsteel

When are the reviews kicking - its already almost 3pm here :'(

Reply to rawsteel

NDA, rumor only yet

NDA is lifting today. But Today when?

Reply to rawsteel

Im not sure..... I think itll be later, as in days, until then, we have to check for leaks heheh

They said they will UNVEIL everything on 10th. That means they will do major Presentation. WTF is UNVEIL if not that. and what will they unveil if we will rely on leaks. I think today we must see official reviews or something.

Umm, explain what youre saying?
30fps minimum is just 2 lower than a 295 average fps, qhich is 11 fps slower than what the rumors are

..which means .... new card(s) suck

Reply to Milos-stancene

If thius card sells for 300-400$, and is 30% faster than the 295 in Crysis, why is that bad?

------------------------------ I went drifting, thru the capitols of tin, where men cant walk and cant freely talk, and sons turn their fathers in
Reply to jaydeejohn

No...that doesnt mean the new cards suck...its means that a single 5870 is about as good as a GTX 295...which has 2 gpus on it.

Reply to bige420

Its exactly twice as fast as a 285 in Crysis, now that make a 285 worth what then, maybe 170$?

Literally 12" long and 3200SP's. I'd have to agree with you. :pt1cable:

single 5870 is about as good as a GTX 295 .. WHERE DO YOU SEE IMPROVEMENT in gaming(single chip card as good as dual chip card) less power OK....
But in games 0

Reply to Milos-stancene

Ok, so a 295 stutters and fails at 25x16 in Crysis, while the 5870 plays through.
Or, you may want to have 2 or 3 monitors playing a game. eyecandy cranked, 295 and a 285 fail, the 5870 cruises.
ATA, Crysis, GTAIV therell be other, for all we know, GRID2 will kill nVidia cards without DX11, so who knows, but we do know, any games coming out will play better on these new cards

A 285 cant run Crysis at 19x12 with x4AA

I'm more impressed by the fact it was playing Crysis at Very High DX10, given how badly coded DX10 is on Crysis and the fact it murders current cards the 30 FPS is an impressive feat especially when considering 4x AA has been enabled which is another killer. I would also expect to see a few more FPS when paired with a faster CPU.

Gainward GTX 285 2048MB + q9550 2,83 GHz @ 3,83 GHz = 30 - 50 FPS !!!!

Yea what is going to happen today? Today was suppose to be the day we get solid information. I am getting sick of these rumors. I want some solid info from amd themselves. I was hoping for official specs, prices, models, pictures and especially benchmarks. Or was this whole Sept 10th thing a false rumor? :(

...rename 295 to 5870

Reply to Milos-stancene

Well, they have released the specs, dont know if theres going to be too many benchmarks though. Heres the specs as stated in another tread.

295=500$
5870=400$
So, once again, the nVidia cards are overpriced, and fall short of the newest DX standards.

the NDA does not get lifted till the 20'th i think, the event today is just for the press

Lovely monster card. Unfortunately, I've just paid $160 for an XFX 4870 1GB. $399 is too damn much for me right now, but I'm sure it gotta be my next card. Perhaps prices will drop by Q2 2010?

Reply to dattimr

I've seen September 22th as the american launch and 23th as the european one. Today AMD and Nvidia should hold some public demonstration of something, but I doubt there will be any official numbers.

Reply to dattimr

Milos you are blind idiot. I bet you still believe the earth is flat :D

Reply to rawsteel

Yeah its seems everyone is saying 22nd for the official launch. Hopefully we wont have to wait that long for some good benchmarks.

These cards should probably have some stupid high clocked GDDR5, perhaps even an increased bus, so, I suppose they can easily bottleneck a Lynnfield-based setup in a simple Crossfire configuration - just as anything below 2 16x PCIe 2.0 lanes.

Reply to dattimr

Yea, awhile longer, think of it this way, previews etc reviews, take around a week, so give it around 10 days or so

We finally figured out out the final specification of the chip that we called RV870 and the fact that AMD plans to call it Radeon HD 5870 doesn’t come as a big surprise. The chip works at 825MHz and has 1600 shaders, two times more than RV770 which indicates that the chip is two times faster than the year old RV770.

The chip has as many as 2.1 billion transistors and is more than twice the number the RV770 packs, which has 956 million transistors. The card uses GDDR5 memory clocked at 1.3GHz (5.2GHz in quad mode) and can provide more than 150GB/second bandwidth. The power of this card stays at 180W while in idle the power drops down to 27W, three times less than the 90W on 4870.

It looks good. Then we still might have a 5890 and surely a 5870X2. Let's hope Nvidia have something more than rebranded cards in order to bring prices down. I hold no big hopes for them, though.
