You'll want 64 bit and as much ram as possible. For your needs you don't need a gaming card. A 4670 or 4850 are more than enough for you. Don't get the velociraptors, not worth the price premium. Get two WD black drives and raid 0 them. You also need to get a slightly cheaper case and spend that money on a good cooler for the cpu so you can overclock your 920 up to 4.0

Thanks for the reply.

I do play the occasional game, and I have Crysis + hellgate just shouting at me from their boxes, waiting to be tested on my new system. I don't mind paying a little more for the GPU, esp when Diablo3 and SC2 are looming in the horizon.

Is my giga UD4P capable of RAID 0? I didn't find that info.

Overclocking: I am a newbie and have no clue how to overclock. I've read the overclocking guide, and my thoughts are I probably won't OC my system simply because I won't know what i'm doing.

Sorry, I missed gaming in your uses list. Yes, your MB can do raid 0. Overclocking is easy, basically just need to adjust 3 bios settings...the bclk, multiplier, and core voltage. bclk 200, mulitplier 20, and voltage to about 1.32...the only one you need to experiment with will be the voltage, but 1.32 should be enough for the OC to be stable.

thanks. i'm sure i'll be able to figure out overclocking once I read about it in-depth. You're saying my i7 920 can go up to 4.0 GHz?

What cooler do you recommend?

yes, almost all 920s can go up to 4.0 on good air cooling. This is the best i7 cooler on the market right now. You need to get one or two fans for it, also.

wow thats one monstrous heat sink!

I can't find that sold here. What about:
- OCZ Vendetta-2
- Thermalright ultra 120 extreme

they also carry cooler master, zalman, xigmatek and asus coolers

what about thermal paste?

The shop guy insisted that I should go with a 1000W PSU....Do I really need to get such a huge power box?

can my 700-800W psu handle ATI 4890 x-fire?
