Disk Boot Failure Insert System Disk and Press Enter

Kindly advice on the above error message to my friend's machine..

Check the BIOS settings to be sure the system is set to boot from the drive that has the operating system. If it is already to boot from the operating system drive, then there may be 1) a physical bad sector on the drive or 2) a corrupt file necessary to run the operating system.

Please clarify whether there is a problem in operating system or else any drive. Which one we need to change..
