Windows takes long time to display delete confirmation

Hello,
I've got a quad core with 16GB of RAM. When trying to delete files it takes a very long time for the delete confirmation to show up. Tried to delete a random 5GB file and has been about 10 minutes and no delete confirmation has shown up yet. Could this be a hardware problem perhaps or? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

What is the status of your drive with respect to free space, etc ?
How much allocation in recycle bin and does it need emptied ?
