Notebook HD in a Desktop

Can a laptop SATA HD taken out of a burned out HP laptop be used to run a Desktop computer.
Power ? Bolt-In ? Compatible ?

Thank You very much Sminlal, a young mans laptop burned out & his HD tested good.
So he was looking for a cheaper way to get back to his gaming & college work !!
He's a happy camper now.

I told him i had a used desktop intel E-6600 [not really a slouch] he could get to help out !!
