hi iv been wondering i have a 650watt psu coolermaster real power pro and all i have running on it is a core i7920 2HDD 3sticks ddr3 and one 9800gtx one cd burner and a usb keyboard and mouse. but the 12volt rail shows that it is only putting out 1-3volts is this even possable? or does this indicate a bad power supply.

iv checked with 3 different pieces of software HWmonitor Occt and speedfan i tried checking with everest (but it wont show since i have trial edition) iv also checked in the bios the bios shows 11.52 volts wich did'nt seem right either because i though in the past usaly the bios shows somewhere around .2 - .5 volts over 12v also in the bios the system is not under anytype of power load so im thinking the bios could be inacurate. i tried uploading a picture of this but this forum dont seem to have that function http://s752.photobucket.com/albums/xx169/winterlord187/?action=view&current=12v_rail_strangevolts.png

here is the link incase the picture dont show up right. i added the picture to photobucket

anyone know what this indicates or is it even possable

thanks

I thought 12v rails were supposed to put out around 90V and 20 amps average? If you're supporting a 9800gtx, make sure the 12vrails equal 23/24amps or more.

12 volt rails are supposed to put out 12 volts +/- 5% or 11.4 - 12.6 volts.

Because your computer is working, there's something obviously wrong with your Windows based voltage monitoring.

Your BIOS measurement indicates a low, but still in tolerance output.

I suggest that you use a digital voltmeter to actually measure the 12 volt output. You can easily measure the 12 volt output on the yellow and black wires of a drive molex connector.

Sears has a perfectly adequate one for about $20.

12V rails put out.....12v

any less and your computer won't turn on, any more and your computer will fry (within some range obviously)

the amperage that it puts out should directly correspond to the load on the 12v rail...more components=more current.....since current*voltage=power....more components equals mroe power, hence the power rating on power supplies
