Virtual Memory

Advantage and can only really think of one is that when you run out of RAM Windows uses the HDD for paging or virtual memory, so saving you adding memory modules on regular basis. Even now with 6 / 12gb pc's beig common Windows still uses a page file

Disadvantages
===========

much slower than RAM - hence the sometimes lagging systems with low physical RAM on board.
