Hey all im planning to upgrade my Video card to a better card, I currently own a 9800GT and want something better, I was looking at the XFX Radeon HD 4870 on newegg and I kinda liked it. But is there a BIG performance difference between these 2 cards ? Which one is better for gaming ? Which one should I go with guys should I stay with the 9800gt or should I go ahead and get the HD4870. Thanks alot guys !

What resolution are you playing at? There is a fair difference between the two, especially with a 1GB 4870 at higher resolutions

Intel e7400
4GB RAM
Highest resolution is only 1440x900
and a OCZ 500w PSU, This is reason I want to get a 4870, I can get a 4890 but the minimum power it needs is 500w and I dont want to risk it, neither do I want to waste money on a PSU RIGHT NOW, maybe in a few months.

The 4870 is about 50% to 100% faster, depending on the game. If not familiar with the THG charts you should be so you can look this up yourself.

At that resolution, I'd stick with the 9800, at least until the new ATI DX11 cards have been released and the prices have realigned afterwards.
Perhaps you should look to giving yourself a nice Christmas prezzie?
As for performance, its a useful but not huge upgrade:

The main benefit will be a boost in minimum framerates and better AA rather than a huge, and unimportaint, increase in maximum framerate.
Have a look at the benchmarks here, use the 1280x1024 setting as a guide:
