i have a 22" LCD monitor (5ms response time)....i am soon going to buy a new graphic card and a intel quad core processor to play games at full graphics at 1440x900 resolution...& i dont want to upgrade my PC components for the next 5 years...bcz my dad yells at me when i asks him for new pc components :'-(.....my budget is $325 that is INR15000

i wanted to buy Q9505 & 9600gt but it do not fit into my budget :'-(....so i am planning to buy Q9400 + 9600gt....so plz tell me if i buy this 2 components will i get better support for the future games & will i get better fps at 1440x900 resolution + high graphics

the difference between Q9505 & Q9400 is only 0.17Ghz Clock...is it worth spending $36 (INR1700) more for Q9505

& one more question is among Q6600 & Q9400..which one is better

if possible plz post me benchmark results of all the core2 quad processors which are currently available in the market....thankyou in advance :)

The higher the resolution, the better the games look, but the more GPU you need to run higher frame rates. Its a personal choice to balance performance with how much you're willing to pay for it.

If you're trying get some real life out of this upgrade, look at it this way:

CPU - The Q9400 will last for a long time. That's a sound choice.

Ram - If you're trying to get years you of your computer, 4 gigs would be appropriate, a sound choice.

GPU - The 9600GT is based on a chip that was released in 2007 (8600GTS) and upgraded early 2008 to the 9600GT. So you're already 2+ years into the life of a 9600GT. If you can swing a 5750, thats only 2 months old. It will last a lot longer than the 9600gt and let you run your games at 1680x1050. If you can expect 3 years out of a GPU, there's only 1 left on a 9600gt and its really underpowered to run 1680x1050. I just don't see it as a good idea and you'll be wanting a GPU upgrade long before you're expecting.

Old school 22" monitor?

Can you include the rest of the system stats?

Use this to compare CPUs:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/default.aspx?b=2
Games are at the bottom.

The Q6600 had its day but its gone. The Q9400 would be better.

Reality check, you're not going to get 5 years out of a 9600gt.

I'd actually go for a 5750 if you're trying to get some life out of your system for gaming. The 5750 won't last 5 years either, but a heck of a lot longer than the 9600gt. While a quad would do better longer, the E8400 and 5750 might be the best balance now and get you into the future pretty well. If you can swing the $10 extra for the Q9400 and 5750, definitely go that route.

Other GPUs I'd get before the 9600gt and still be able to get the Q9400:
4850
4770
GTS 250

If you already have a Core 2 Quad, getting a new one is only going to get you a higher clockspeed. So, OC your current processor and buy a 5850($300). Get a aftermarket heatsink since If you overclock like the hyper 212($30).
So for a total of $330 you knocked out both of those.

I do not have quadcore already.....i have p4 2.66ghz

thanks skora for giving that link & other details, but what do you mean "old school 22" montor?" :?

my rest of the system stats are as follows

p4 2.66ghz
2gb(800mhz) ddr2 ram
xfx nforce 630i motherboard
250gb + 160gb sata 2 hdd
windows 7 ultimate (pirated :D  )
LG 22" widescreen (5ms response time, 1680x1050 maximum resolution, vga connector)

if i replace my old p4 with Q9400 & add a 9600gt graphic card..will i get higher frame rates at high graphics on 1440 x 900 resolution

Early 22" monitors were 1680x1050,but as tech has increased, 22" monitors run at 1920x1080.

Why the reduction in monitors resolution for gaming?

Getting the Q9400 is nice. But the 9600GT isn't a great card. It will do okay on todays games at 1440x900, but will quickly fail without lowered details after a year of new games. Take whatever budget you have left after getting the Q9400, and spend it all on the GPU. Use the list from my last post.

If you can find some cheap ram, adding more wouldn't hurt with Win7 Ultimate, but you can get by without it too.

well 1440x900 resolution i chose because it works perfect on my screen for gaming...1680x1050 is also not a issue

Other options for a 1680x1050 monitor:

Time:
Prices on the 5750 will come down and there may be sales for the holiday season you can take advantage of. Or there will be new 56xx cards released in Q1 of 2010, that may also bring prices down or offer up another option.

Not newest, but still current enough
1. 4870 any
2. 4850 1gb if you can find it
3. 4770

A little older, but solid performer (this would be last option because you need something NOW and the others aren't available.)
9800GT or above (older chips though)
