PATA HDD not detected in windows

My computer has SATA(WD2500AAKS-00B3A0) as boot drive and I connected PATA (WD2500AAJB-00J3A0) as primary master. It is shown in bios but not in windows (device manager as well) which takes lot of time to boot. My other PATA (WD2500BB-55RDA0) is detected and shown in windows. Could any help me in this issue?

Intel Core2duo 2.66
Asus P5Q pro

Does it show up in disk management? If so, it probably needs initialized before it will show up in windows.

No, it is not visible in disk management as well.

Did you remember to switch your other pata drive to slave when you added this new one as a master? You can only have one master and one slave per IDE port.

Thanks for replying Hawkeye. I have only one HDD connected that is master. This issue comes into play when I make the SATA boot drive not when I make PATA as boot drive.

So it works as a boot drive? But the PATA doesn't work when the SATA boots?

Yes, you are correct. It is working as boot drive. I have Windows XP and 7 installed both are taking time to load and recognize HDD. My PATA is connected to Marvell IDE port.

My current HDD(got it by RMA) is running as primary master. Is it possible that old HDD drivers(registry) taking time in loading windows and detecting HDD?

According to WD support, if the PATA is the only device on the IDE, then it should be set to single (no jumpers), not as master (pins 5 & 6).

HDD is set to single (no jumper). The issue is windows is not detecting the HDD but bios is able to detect it.

I am able to trace the issue. It was happening due to Marvell Sata drivers. Once drivers are installed all partitions disappear and HDD is not shown altogether in disk management.
