So I noticed on the back theres a switch I can flip that has 115V and 230V. I know they mean volts. But I was wondering what would happen if I change it from 115V to 230V? What do I need to keep in mind if I want to switch this? Will it fry anything? What are the chances of that happening? Does it depend on what kind of outlet I have it plugged into? Appreciate the help.
In all honesty just don't touch it. All American standard outlets use a 110-120 v outlet and actually a house is wired to the 230 v half of the house is set to a negative 115 the other half is connected to a positive 115, and major appliances such as A/C units, some washer and dryers need the full 230 and thats where both the positive and negative terminals reach to achieve a full range of 230 v.
Now i assume that means you can plug you computer int one of these 230 v sockets, but i am not quite sure, i think its also for foreign sockets that run on different voltages than the US.
In al honesty if the computer is working fine don't touch it. leave it be.
Glorian is right. This is only there so that people who have this PSU in a country with a 230 VAC supply outlet (or who move there) can simply set the switch to 230 and plug in, and it will work. You do not have that situation, and you should NOT make any attempt to alter the system so that you can plug into 230 VAC. There is no advantage to that.
